Unofficial Thank You!

I successfully defended my dissertation on Jan 16 2013, and now get to add those blessed 3 letters after my name- Ph.D.!!
At the beginning of the dissertation document, students are invited to write a Preface- a section for thank yous and acknowledgements. I'd like to think mine was genuine, heartfelt, and touched the appropriate people. But that Preface does not tell the entire story. Many other people, places, things, and ideas got me through the Ph.D.. I would like to honor those here and now.

To Pandora
To Florence & The Machine (and your Pandora station)
To the "first aid kit" when it contained chocolate covered pretzels, Rolos, Trader Joe's toffee dark chocolate bars
To frozen pizza dough, Pad See Ew from Smiling Banana Leaf, and cornbread chili
To Building New Hope coffee and Earl Grey tea
To Southern Tier 2X IPA, Malbec, and Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc
To the Highland Park Food Co-Operative
To Apple- the ipod, ipad, MacBook, and customer service
To my old Pitt hoodie, and my older bleach stained sweat pants
To the Forbes Avenue Caribou coffee, especially the early am weekday staff
To dinner parties, brunches, coffee dates
To NPR, especially morning edition
To the Great Race, Couch to 5K, and yoga
To Google
To Wiki
To Facebook, the NYTimes, and blogger!
To the view from my lab window, and turning off the over head lights
To my Herschel backpack, and my brown leather boots
To my old fisherman's sweater, hanging on the back of my lab chair, the pockets filled with tissues
.....
because I can't think of more now though there surely are
so
.....

I do not thank the 71A, B or C (why why why do you NEVER come when I need you?), the entire PittWeb system, nor the American Speech Language Hearing Association, among others who/that have certainly done me wrong in the last 4.5 years. But because this is a post about thank yous and not revenge, I return to my simply, sweet, heartfelt-

Merci!
(now go get a job!)
