January 2013, in the car:
Tilly: that car is blue mommy!
Me: yes, Bear, it is blue
Tilly: my legs are brown
me: (suprisingly choked up) yes, Bear, your legs are brown. All of your skin is brown, and it's lovely!
January 2013, on the potty:
Tilly: Mommy, what color is my bum?
me: your bum is brown
Tilly: and my belly!
me: yep, just like your belly
Tilly: (laughing) you said, "yep!"
February 2013, in the bedroom:
Tilly: what color is your hair?
me: red
Tilly: what color is Daddy's hair?
me: black
Tilly: what color is Mimom's hair?
me: blonde- which is sort of like yellow
Tilly: what color is my hair?
me: brown
Asking people what color their hair is becomes the month's obsession
March 2013, top of the steps:
Tilly: Daddy, you're black!
me & Reg: umm, yes (did she really just say that?)
March 2013, snuggling in the chair before bed:
Tilly: (pointing at her nose) my nose is brown
me: yes, because your skin is brown and you have skin on your nose.
Tilly: my head skin is brown?
me: Yes, all of your skin is brown
Tilly: my legs are brown and my arms are brown
me: yep!
Tilly: Daddy has black skin
me: yes, he does. What color is my skin?
Tilly: I dont know!
me: my skin is white
Tilly: kids skin is white?
me: some kids have white skin, some have brown. It's really cool because everyone has different color skin. So we are all different. But everybody's skin is beautiful. (wow- one of those teaching moments that just sneaks up on you!).
Tilly: Oh. Elephant is BLUE! (points at elephant picture on the wall)
me: yep, elephant is blue, I'm white, and you're brown.
Tilly: sing "Mary Poppins", Mommy!
This is so sweet!
