rich coast bound!

So long friends! It's only for a week, but this vacation feels like a lifeline out of snowy, grey, Pennsylvania!

A Gillefond JUNGLE adventure!

Tomorrow we embark for Costa Rica (can you use the word embark when not talking about boat-travel?) We have packed for 2 people- take that in- TWO PEOPLE- in ONE carry-on-backpack that weighs EXACTLY 25 lbs, which also, coincidentally, is the weight limit on the SANSA airlines flight we will take from San Jose, CR to Tambor airport. The SANSA flight with 16 seats (and room for four 9' surfboards), which takes 30 minutes and drops us in what I imagine will be a tiny airport in a tiny town on the Pacific coast. From there, we'll find some type of transportation to take us to our first location- Montezuma. More specifically, a teeny hotel (hut, really) on the beach (high tide supposedly washes up on the porch) that doesn't take reservations (so, here's hoping they have a bed free!). The web recommends not having open food or the howler monkeys may come and steal it!
We'll spend 3 days in Montezuma, then take a bus, then a ferry, then another bus to Monteverde/Santa Elana in the middle-northern section of the country which promises jungle, an active volcano, and lots of hiking (I actually bought hiking sneakers. Gross, but practical). We "splurged" and reserved a room w/ private bath for $30 whole dollars in a little hostel with lots of community areas and purple paint.

We're armed with cash (US and CR), 6 paperbacks, 100% Deet spray and wipes, SPF 70, bathing suits, shorts, and t-shirts. Weather.com is promising highs near 100 and lows near 80. We could not be more ready.

Will report on the adventures when we return!

Adios!
love, A&R
