Pittsburgh's Goin' to the Superbowl!

Here we go Steelers, Here we go!!

Last Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers won the AFC championship by beating the NY Jets- and we were there!!!

I debated going- temps were in the 0s (yes, zeros), the game was at night, so there was no sun to help, snow covered the ground, and parking for games is not convenient when you are quite pregnant with a penchant for bilateral lower extremity neuropathy at inopportune times (yes- I get a horrible burning nerve pain down the front of my right leg and in my left hip at random. It's terrible, and not what you want to experience when walking, say, for 45 minutes across a bridge over a river in negative wind chill temps).

We planned well (are you surprised?)  Drove to the stadium around 2pm for a 630pm game.  We were able to get parking at The Rivers Casino for $25 (in-town would have been $7, but required a long walk).  The casino is only a few blocks from the stadium AND on the same side as our entrance/exit gate.  We killed a few hours in the casino watching the Bears/Packers game, then walked to the stadium for when the gates opened at 430.  Now, in the interest of full disclosure, I do have to insert a big toughness caveat here.  We went to the game with, and courtesy of, my dad and stepmom, and sat in their corporate seats.  These seats are in the club level, which means that the seats themselves are outside- but at anytime we can go inside to the Club West lounge- which is completely indoors, heated, with tables, couches, etc to relax and more food options than typical stadium fare (which I happen to love).  It's not totally frou-frou, mind you- there are tons of club level seats so its not easy to actually sit indoors at the half, but our strategery paid off once again.  By getting there when the gates opened, we were able to sit down in warmth, have dinner, and go outside at 6:29 to catch the start of the game, and run back inside for halftime.

We were each in a minimum of 3 layers of bottoms and 4 layers of tops, plus hand and feet warmers, hats, scarves, gloves.  I felt so stay-puff!  And I will admit in the name of blog honesty, the zipper on my poor coat that Im already sausaging myself into, split.  I was able to easily un-zip and re-zip, so I can still wear the coat, but what a moment to have! Mid 3rd quarter, my coat splits open. ah well.

The game was incredible!  Fun, nail-biting, a great show of athletic talent and hometown pride.  I loved every minute, and actually wasn't all that cold!  I did have either windburn or frostbite on my nose afterwards, but it was totally worth it. Tuffin it out for the black and gold!  The best part- we won!  On to claim the 7th Steelers Superbowl Victory Sunday Feb 6th! Wave your terrible towels with pride!!
