Sharks have a week dedicated to him

Obama says, "Let's get as out of control on your birthday as a monumentally disastrous oil spill"  Lova ya, BO- so glad you come to all of our parties!

Ahhh the great week of Regibald has come to a close!  It was the man's 30th birthday and therefore worth every bite of carrot cake, pocket full of swedish fish, and other special just-for-reg culinary delights! ugh.  My dentist is going to kill me!

As I said in the last post, Im a bad secret keeper.  I started giving Reg his gifts last Sunday (the 20th), then we went to Eleven for dinner the night of his "real" birthday www.bigburrito.com/eleven/eleven.shtml
It was great! I had sea scallops wrapped in prosciutto for my appetizer, rare tuna with tempura asparagus for entree, and banana custard for dessert.  Reg started with cherry gazpacho, had lamb from a local farm as his entree, and molten chocolate cake for dessert.  I surprised him with a sparkling rose in these little vintage 1960's champagne glasses (which we have wanted since our MadMen obsession began)- had the waiter bring it out as a special surprise before the meal.  And of course more presents when we got home (does that sentence come with a wink? i dunno.......)

Then on Saturday we had a full day extravaganza.  First, it must be mentioned that it was about 89 degrees with humidity to match.  But the Oilers had a double header and my girlfriends and I promised to represent in the stands, and represent we did!  Costume #1- "oiler blue" sundress, huge straw sunhat, big sunglasses!

My girlfriends, Leah & Lisa, sweating off the cake they were about to eat that night.

Unfortunately, the boys lost, but Reg made a few great plays, so I was glad we were in attendance!

We came home, sadly watched the US lose to Ghana, then got to work setting up for a little urbansuburban barbeque.  We had invited about 20 friends over for an evening of meat, music, and champagne....ohhhh champagne!

Leah, Beth & Lisa test the margaritas
champagne-lemonade, and sauvignon blanc!

darling Minya and Leah, post sugar snap pea binge

i love that it looks like we are in a serious conversation.
Im sure we were not. positive. definitely not serious.

Jesse, Reg, and Rabih.  I don't know why Rabih is making that face.
But please note, they have moved on to drinking the champagne of beers!

could we be any sweatier?? I couldn't even edit this photo because it kept just making the entire photo lighter to try to match the glow off of the sweat on my forehead! ew

and I just realized, we have a very similar photo from a party last September...haha! I swear we do have more clothes in our closets! Do we look older in the top photo?? haha!

Happy birthday to you, babe!

We were supposed to have gone dancing at Caribbean dance party at a local place, but ended up sitting around engaged in conversation with our neighbors and friends (who aren't neighbors) til about 1230.  By the time we cleaned everything up, it was too late and we were too tired (and the birthday boy was a bit too drunk) to make it out!

Sunday there was yet another baseball game (ok, i might have gone to the mall instead of watching but it was really really hot), followed by a great dinner of steak and salmon (for me!) and more presents for Reg at my dad's house.

One of the best parts about the week, other than celebrating Reg turning 30, was getting to hang out with our neighbors.  In our little corner of Callowhill street are 4 other young couples, and apparently a new couple just moved in (Reg wanted to go get them and bring them to the party....after finishing a bottle of champagne.....after midnight...I convinced him that maybe that wasn't the best time to knock on the door of a stranger!)  I can't say it enough- we are SO lucky to live where we do, with the people around us.  It seems that everyone we meet in Highland Park is so much like us.  The neighbors 2 down from us are from New York, PhD students, and have the cutest little 3 year old boy.  We hung out with them socially for the first time this weekend and Im sure there will be many more nights of beer on the front porches with them.

And for now, we are exhausted, but it was a great week of celebrations for my best friend and love of my life.  How lucky am I?
