Sunflowers!

In February we attended a fun party thrown by a friend of ours, Regina.  The party, called Love of Friends, is held annually, and one of the best parts is the gift bag! (ok, that and hanging out with friends on valentine's day, of course!)  In the gift bag this year (homemade totes from t-shirts- so hipster of us!) was a bag of sunflower seeds donated by a local company, G-Tech, co-run by a good friend of ours, Matt.

We figured- what the heck, let's plant them and see what happens!

What happened was 2 HUGE sunflowers- one reaching over 8 feet tall in our back yard!

The flowers were HUGE- we couldn't believe it!  I had to cut the flower off of the tall one because it was pulling the entire plant over into our neighbor's yard.

Little bumble-bee, doing its thing, helping our crops:

We brought it inside and put it in our largest vase, where it still dominated the room.  Next year? Screw vines, I think "privacy wall" of sunflowers in the backyard!

Thanks, G-Tech!
