the other white meat

It's been awhile since I posted about food.  Tonight we tried a new recipe with grand success!  You know when you are excited about tomorrow coming because of the food you are going to eat?  That is how I feel right now- knowing how great my lunch will be tomorrow!
I'm not much of a meat eater, especially red meat, but was on board to try a new pork loin recipe.  Once again, Food & Wine cookbook 2004 did not disappoint.  If you ever come across this book at a yard sale- buy it! It is the best of the annual Food & Wine cookbooks by far.  We were able to use some herbs leftover from the garden in the summer, which was nice.

For the pork:
rub the meat with olive oil, sea salt, pepper, rosemary, sage, and a "special" ingredient- unknown herbs in a bag given to us by a friend in Germany.  let it chill in the fridge for about 20 min, the brown the sides on the stovetop, and place on a grill plate or fry pan (if oven safe) in the oven on 400 for about 20-30 minutes (depending on the oven).

Next, I made fried apple rings.  I know, way to take a healthy side and make it artery clogging.  Core and slice an apple, drag it through flour, then a beaten egg, then bread crumbs, and fry in oil. We used sesame oil. The recipe called for peanut.  I wouldn't do olive- I just don't think the taste would work.

We served everything with a side of peas, and just a touch of cranberry chutney on the pork. It was delicious!  It would have been even better with a good Riesling- only a few more weeks til I can wine pare again! The meal also got rave reviews from Papoose who has been dancing a non-stop jig since dinner. thanks?
