I went for my normal OB appointment Monday and was informed that between the size of fundus (I know you love thinking about your fundal size) and the circumference estimations from the 20 week ultrasound, papoose is measuring a bit on the large side. They wanted to see how much of the size was fluid, and how much was baby, so we had a set of glamour shots done.
Verdict? the size is mostly baby, but there's a good bit of fluid, too. The ultrasound measurements are confirming the clinic estimations. Our over-achiever is in the 91st percentile for ultrasound measurements! So we also get a 36 week ultrasound to see if her size has leveled out (ie- was this a growth spurt?) or is she really going to be born the size of a toddler. I have a huge noggin and Reg's legs make up about 87% of his body, so no surprise that she'd be on the larger size. Not much changes now (other than we wont be buying more newborn size clothing!) and my glucose and blood pressure measurements are completely fine (no diabetes, no hypertension or pre-eclampsia) and I havent gained so much weight considering how big she is. She's literally just big.
Best part of the day- we got a free 3-D ultrasound. I have no idea why, but the tech decided to try to get us some good headshots. They completely blew me away! I can't completely reconcile that the little face and hands we see in the u/s photos belong to the little creature rolling around inside of me. Though I may be biased, I must say she does have some pretty phenomenal lips!
These are camera-phone photos taken of ultrasound photos printed from the machine, so not the greatest resolution. I might have more success with scanning the shots, but our scanner is down and I dont have time to deal with that right now!

that little hand by her face is just too cute

we had a hard time getting a shot of her face- she kept covering up with her hands. Maybe she's like Streisand and only likes to be photographed from her good side.

we have a baby pic of Reg with nearly the identical pucker

contemplation. world peace? solved.

That's so awesome that you got to see some 3D pictures before you officially meet her! 91 %, wowzers! Overachiever before she's out of the womb. She's going to be here before you know it!
ReplyDeleteMy brother was 13lb and some odd oz (23 inches long) when he was born and my mom birthed him normally and without complications. She ended up having C-sections with my two sisters as they were on the larger side too.
The baby pucker is priceless!
