6 more days (not counting today) until our due date. I don't know what I'll do if she is late. We went to the opera Tuesday night and thought- what a great way for her to make a grand entrance! nope. Reggie is hoping she comes today- the start of baseball season (naturally!). We'll see. I'm not even "overdue", but I fear, though I apologize for it profusely, that I have become a complaining pregnant woman. It's just so hard, and I'm so uncomfortable these days. I decided that in order to keep perspective, I need a post based on what has rocked and what...hasn't....regarding pregnancy symptoms for the last 10 months.
So- urine luck! Item #1- I have not peed myself! Well, there's positive thinking, you say. Hey! There is a HUGE papoose resting all of her weight on my bladder all of the time. A little incontinence during laughing, sneezing, coughing, walking is considered completely expected and normal during the end of pregnancy, and I am happy to report- not me!
I have also successfully avoided varicose veins, crazy cravings (minus the love of refined sugar the last few weeks. I guess that counts as a craving), acne, nausea, hemorrhoids, constipation, sensitive gums, bad heartburn, bad backaches (as in worse that what I'd typically have from sitting at a desk working all day), nosebleeds. This list is just a short one of some of the common pregnancy "symptoms" (as if pregnancy's a disease- such a strange word to use). And I have avoided all of them! woohoo!
Unfortunately, a few others hit me square on- I was bloated and restless during the first trimester (but no sickness, so that was a huge plus!), I now believe in restless leg syndrome because I spent month 1-3 twitching around every evening. I also had nerve pain in my hips and the front of my legs as she grew, as well as stretching pain in my abdomen during the 2nd trimester into the 3rd. In the last month I've sadly experienced daily cankles (sigh... I cant wait to see my ugly bony feet again), hip/pelvic joint pain, a ton of pressure, and the strangest most unexpected of them all- my fingers are not only swollen, but popping in and out of joint. Apparently, according to my OB, as your joints loosen for birth, all of them loosen. I've gotten really clumsy and my fingers actually bend the wrong way or won't bend at all sometimes. Quite odd. Positively- my hair and nails are thick and shiny and grow at an astronomical rate. Fantastic!
So, see? Really, it's nothing. I will try to not complain today.
In the meantime, another classic cell-phone self-photo, start of week 40. Do these horizontal stripes make me look fat? :-) I think I'm an aerodynamic wonder!

Congrats you're almost there!! You've got some serious basketball belly! If I didn't know you were really pregnant, I would have thought it was fake. Good luck with everything in the next week or so, we can't wait to hear that everyone is healthy!
