I haven't neglected my cooking challenge for this summer, just haven't had the time to post about it. I think I am as busy with school/work as I was pre-Mathilda, now I'm getting the same amount accomplished in about 1/3-1/2 the time. A bit tiring. I could shoplift in the bags under my eyes.
Here's to having it all...
Red cabbage? apples? cabbage soup!
Courtesy of yet another Williams Sonoma cookbook- cooking from the farmer's market, this recipe is simple and tasty- red cabbage, apples, onion (all from our csa), red wine vinegar, beef broth, salt/pepper, and top it off with some dill. My friend Leah and I always commiserate on how difficult it is to take good pictures of food. I actually think this one turned out well with the cookbook in the background. Would you believe it was unstaged?
Apparently I was craving some beta carotene because I made us an entirely orange meal. Carrots from the csa, sweet potato fries actually purchased frozen (what a rip off! so expensive for a barely half-pound bag of cut up sweet potatoes), tangy ketchup to dip courtesy of Alaina from my food co-op, and salmon on the grill. yummmorannnnnnge! Reggie added the orange napkin for effect.
Mathilda also started solids this week. Oooooh the tasteless excitement of rice cereal! We think she is more than ready to move on. Five minutes ago she lunged, mouth open, at a chocolate chip cookie I was eating, and tried to drink one of Reg's beers the other night. Hope she's that excited about pureed green beans!
She gets mad if we don't get the spoon back into her mouth fast enough. Just like her mama, girl loves to eat!
