day at the pool (or, thank goodness I'm no longer sick!)

Remember how I thought Tilly was playing hooky just as an excuse to stay home and watch Julie Andrews movies with me? Well, I was a little bit mistaken.
Tuesday night she spiked a really high fever (almost 104) and we had to take her to the emergency room at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.  Poor little bear cub. Turns out she had a bad upper respiratory infection (with a suspicious chest xray that finally was confirmed to NOT be pneumonia) and a urinary tract infection! We were in the ED for about 3 hours, and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about the staff- they were so kind, and fast, and took great care of Mathilda and her worried parents.  She has to have a few more tests this week to make sure she doesn't have anything seriously wrong with her "plumbing" but chances are it was just a fluke infection and will clear with this course of antibiotics.  She got to stay home all week with mama and daddy (lucky girl) and other than a really hoarse voice from all of the coughing (which is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever heard- the first day she became dysphonic I cried everytime she did because it sounded so sad!) she's back to her usual energetic, giggling self.  Even in the emergency room she couldn't stop smiling at the doctors and nurses!

Today was Mathilda's first day at the pool (aka blow up pool in my dad's backyard).  She wore her new swim diaper and sun hat and had a really good time splashing around

ready to go in for the first time

hmmmm...this is not my bathtub

exploring

trying to catch the floating fishies

I climbed in to help her "swim".  She was really into sucking the water off of her fingers

I should note, the tank top is not for vanity, it's to keep the day family-friendly and PG.  While the swimsuit is 1-piece, it's really low cut and the "nursing girls" don't fit in it so well as they used to!

finally both of us (sort of) looking at the camera!

We also had her floating in the bumbo seat, and she loved playing with (eating) the pool toys.  I hope she always loves the water this much.  I can't wait until next summer when she can really play in the pool.
Fingers crossed that this week is uneventful and, more importantly, that she stays fit as a fiddle!
