weekends

Again I've gotten some grief for not updating the blog. Well, the reason is the focus of this post- busy busy BUSY weekends. Don't worry, its been (mostly) fun busy.

First was the International Children's Festival in Pittsburgh- and we took Mathilda to see her first play. She was a bit scared initially, but then really warmed up and got into it. She's not very good at disbelief suspension- she kept yelling out to the actors when they were "pretending". Oh well.

can you spot the timid bear in the background with her dad leaning in?

petting zoo. great idea in theory. She talked about it for days before. Yet clung to me like a frightened koala the entire time we were there. Oh and ignore my horrible appearance. I was a bit hungover. Ok. A lot hangover. Damn you new amazing craft cocktail bar, Tender!

Next, we had a "fun with friends with kids" weekend for memorial day in Deep Creek, MD. Depending on where you place the punctuation, that sentence has multiple meanings (fun with friends- with kids?) It was fantastic. Wintry, but fantastic. We rented a huge house with wrap around porch right on the water.

She was getting tired running so I gave a piggy back ride. She fell asleep in about 1 minute and my triceps got quite the workout carrying her home.

the group. having fun. with friends. and kids.

Sadly, that trip was where I put the final nail in my summer running coffin. I've been having ankle problems since starting to run again in April (I planned to outdo my success last year and was aiming to run a 10miler by my birthday). After running on this trip I couldnt ignore it and took myself to the sports medicine clinic. Unfortunately, I have an achiles injury and not only am I no longer running and being quite slug-like this summer, I am in an immobility boot up to my knee and have PT 2x/week.

Then Reg and I ventured alone to Seattle (thanks parents for watching the wild animal Mathilda!). Reggie was the officiant for his good friend, Adam's wedding. It was glorious! Seattle surprised me in a few ways. 1- the public transport is quite easy; 2- there are a lot of homeless people. a lot; and 3- it kind of has a pee smell. Maybe related to #2?

After that, I spent a girls weekend with my mom in NYC for my brother's fiance's bridal shower. We got to see Book of Mormon again- a first for my mom! It was such fun. I always get a pang of, oh gosh maybe we should have moved here when we visit. Its so wonderful to see friends and family who are friends. SO much love.
on stage post-show. Have I mentioned she won a Tony? Oh right. Nikki has a Tony.

SO THAT'S IT!
We're home (for a bit) and enjoying our urbansuburban summer life. Outdoor concerts, picnics, pool time, gardening, the CSA is again flourishing. Life is as it should be.
